Special Events ’06 – ‘07

1.      [Sept 1st ‘06] Another year, another September and once again we welcome another new group of boys to Junior Infants all beginning their education here with us in St Declans.  Amazingly these boys will graduate to Secondary school in the year 2014! This may seem a long way off now but it will arrive sooner than you think. So, even though this journey may now seem long we wish these boys well in the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

2.      [Oct 26th ‘06] The Mayor of Waterford Cha O Neill was greeted with the traditional St Declans welcome this morning on his arrival to our school to present Certificates of Attendance to all those boys who had full attendance last year.

3.      [Oct 27th ‘06] Once again our annual Fund Raising Raffle was a huge success and a special thanks must go out to both parents and boys for buying and selling so many tickets. Nearly €3200 was collected. The lucky winner of the bike was …. Jake Williams…. lucky man!

4.      [Dec 22nd ‘06] We took a short break from the hustle and bustle of Christmas today and paused for a moment to reflect during our Carol Service on the “First Christmas.” This lovely ceremony was led by Miss Buckley and the whole school gathered around the Advent Candle in music, song and prayer to welcome a Saviour being born.

5.      [Jan 29th ‘07] The Waterford Credit Union Quiz was held tonight in the Tower Hotel and both out U11 and U13 teams came out on top. Well done boys.

6.      [Mar 12th ‘07] After their historic and incredible victory yesterday in the Harty Cup the victorious De La Salle College Team paid a visit to our school today and presented the famous trophy to the whole school in the senior yard.

7.      [Mar 14th ‘07] As uacht gur Sheachtain na Ghaeilge a bhí ann bhailigh na ranganna sóisearacha roimh lón agus na ranganna sínearacha tar éis lón sa halla is bhíomar ag canadh is ag cleachtadh chuid den Gaeilge atá foghlamtha againn go dtí seo.

8.      [Mar 15th ‘07] Our traditional Spring fundraiser – “The Cake and Bottle Sale – was held this evening in the school hall and once again a huge crowd turned up to chance their luck with the spinner. We thank you all for you generosity and we hope you all had a great night. Just over €3100 was raised on the night.

9.      [Mar 25th ‘07] Congratulations to the boys in 6th Class who made their Confirmation today in St Johns Church. A special thanks to Mr Morgan and Mr Fitzgerald for all their work and time in preparing the boys for this important sacrament.

10.  [Apr 27th ‘07] Déise Day”…. The whole school turned out in blue and white celebrating Waterford’s appearance in the National League Hurling Final against Kilkenny.

11.  [May 2nd ‘07] The De La Salle College Senior Hurling Team, true to their promise revisited our school with their recently won All Ireland Trophy which was proudly placed alongside the Harty Cup in the senior yard today.

12.  [May 19th ‘07] The boys of Ms Butler’s and Miss Buckley’s Classes were the pride and joy of their parents today as they made their First Holy Communion in a beautiful and respectful ceremony in St Johns Church. This is a real family day of celebration which was surly enjoyed by all.

13.  [May 23rd ‘07] Waterford Captain Michael Walsh paid a quick visit to our school today and brought the League Trophy with him for all to see.

14.  [June 22nd ‘07] The annual end of year School Penmanship Awards were announced today by Mr O Mahony at a ceremony in the Junior yard. Congratulations to all the winners.
