Trip to The Granary and Reginals Tower – Oct 20th ‘06

Today we went to the Granary and Reginals Tower. There were two groups of fourteen, Mr. Doran took one group and Mrs. Greene took the other. I was in Mr. Doran’s group and we went to the Granary while the other group were in Reginalds Tower. We were looking at artifacts found during the excavation of the new Waterford by pass. We saw the stone that was used to make axes. We saw Oghem poles and what the marks translate to. We saw Bann flakes and we learned that archaeologists took four hours to dust and clean each Bann flake.

In Reginalds Tower we saw early Waterford when the Viking Regnall came and built Reginalds Tower out of wood. There was a display of Norman Waterford with the stone version of Reginalds Tower. There were still some wooden fences with stone gateways. We went into the jail cell where prisoners were kept. They only had an opening for light. We went up the stumble stairs and saw where they shot arrows at enemies and where they fired the cannon. We went further up the stumble stairs and saw the toilet they used and also the fireplace. We watched a D.V.D. on three towers around Waterford and then went back to school. I enjoyed Friday and preferred our visit to the Granary.
