Science Week - 13th - 17th Nov ‘06

[13th Nov ‘06] Today as part of Science Week Ireland we were lucky to have been able to visit The Armagh Planetarium’s presentation at the WIT. It was divided into two parts – first we learned all about current and static electricity and then we were shown a number of experiments connected with electricity. Secondly we learned about the planets and stars, constellations and star signs all from inside a dome style tent!

Please wait for all the pictures to load…….

Today is the first day of Science Week Ireland. We went to the W.I.T. First we learned about electricity. We were told that there are two types of electricity - static and current. Static comes off your telly. If you rub a balloon off a jumper then touch it off long hair ….the hair will stand up. We also learned about current electricity.

Current electricity will always try to find the shortest way to the ground. We had an electric ball to demonstrate…a few boys touched it. When they touched it all the electricity went to their finger through their arm then their leg and to the ground.

Then we went into a big igloo thing and looked at all the stars. We learned that spacemen eat food from a tube. We were told about the constellations and how to find them. It was an enjoyable and worthwhile visit. It was an interesting and educational experience. The experience will help me with my school work and I look forward to our next school trip.
