Habitat study and Surfing – June 7th ‘07 We were
extremely fortunate to have such a warm and sunny day as the experts at
Oceanic Manoeuvres, Tramore took us firstly on a guided walk down the beach
followed in the afternoon with some surfing lessons. Grace, our morning guide
was great and enthusiastically shared her knowledge of the various habitats
of the Tramore shore line and the sand dunes. After lunch the boys pulled on
their wetsuits and headed for the ocean and put their balancing ability to
the test. Everyone enjoyed what was indeed one of the best days of the year.

Our class and the other 5th class went to
Oceanic Manoeuvres. When we got there, Paul who is the manager brought us to
the back deck area. Then we were told that our class would be going on the
beach discovery walk first. A woman called Grace brought us on it. She knew a
lot of information about the different habitats in the beach and the sand dunes.
The walk was really long but we saw a few different animals on it like the
spiny spider-crab, sand hoppers, skylarks and some beetles. After our two hour walk we got back to Oceanic Manoeuvres
and it was our turn to go surfing. We all were given wetsuits and boots. They
were very hard to put on. When everybody had their wetsuits on we were told
the safety procedures and shown how to surf. It looked fairly easy but looks
can be deceiving. Then we were given our surfboards and we went to the beach.
It was really hard to stand up on the board and I only managed to stand up
twice. Some of my friends did really well. Then we went back to Oceanic
Manoeuvres and waited for the bus to collect us. We had a great day. Report written by Adam Ryan. |
