[Aug
31st ‘09]
A new year brings with it a fresh start for the whole school and even though
the rain may have been pouring down outside it failed to dampen the
excitement and the spirits of all the new Junior Infants who started today
with Miss O Mahony and Mrs Connolly.
2. [Sept 22nd ‘09] This morning in St Johns Church,
along with our friends in Waterpark
NS we celebrated our parish back to school mass to mark the
beginning of our new school year. All classes from 2nd to 6th attended.
3.
[Oct
16th ‘09] The
final of our in school hurling league for 3rd and 4th
class was played today over in the College field. Congratulations to David O
Hare and all the members of his team who came out on top today. Special
thanks to Mr Kirby for organizing this competition.

[Oct
19th – 23rd ‘09] This week was our in school “Visual Arts Week” where every teacher made an
extra special effort to prepare and present artwork with a Halloween theme.
Thanks to Mrs Flahavan for assisting in the organization of this event.

[Oct
22nd ‘09] The
Mayor of Waterford Councilor John Halligan
made his annual visit to St Declans today to present Certificates of
Attendance to all the boys who did not miss a day at school last year.
6.
[Oct
22nd ‘09] We
had our annual Halloween Fundraising
Raffle today in school and
there was great excitement all around the hall in anticipation of who the
lucky winner of the bike might be. Once again this raffle was very well
supported and thanks to everyone who bought a ticket. A total of €2700
was raised. Congratulations to Tom O Hanlon and all the other lucky winners.

[Dec
14th ‘09] Boys
from 5th and 6th class visited Killure Bridge Nursing Home this morning and
gave a special Christmas musical recital for all the residents.
8.
[Dec
22nd ‘09] Miss
Buckley led the whole school this morning with our Christmas Carol Service in the hall. Every class took turns
singing a variety of songs from Halleluiah Rock while in between, the story
of the first Christmas was recounted by boys from different classes.
9.
[Jan
8th – 12th ‘10] This week was “History Week” here in St Declans where every
effort was made right across the school to bring history to life in as many
ways as possible. It was a very enjoyable week and a huge success thanks to
efforts of teachers, parents and the boys themselves. Thanks to Mr Doran for
co coordinating this event.

[Mar
22nd ‘10] In
a special “Naming of the Goat”ceremony
in the Junior Yard we celebrated 10 years of sending goats to Africa in conjunction with the Bothar organisation.
Over the last decade we have sent 20 goats and helped countless families in
the process. Mr Grant would like to thank everyone for being so generous over
the years.

[Mar
25th ‘10] Our
annual Cake and Bottle Sale was a huge success this year. We had a
fantastic response and a huge crowd turned up on the night. Special thanks to
the Parents Association and the staff for making this all possible.
€5300 was raised on the night.

[Apr
24th ‘10] Congratulations
to all the boys in 6th class who made their Confirmation today
in St John’s Church along with 6th class from Waterpark NS.
13.
[May
11th ‘10] The
Junior end of the school was given a new look today as 3 new flags flew for the first time on our
newly positioned flagpoles.
14.
[May
14th ‘10] Today’s
visit from a mobile reptile zoo will live
long in the memories of many of the boys who got a rare opportunity to see
these amazing creatures in their own classroom.
15.
[May 22nd ‘10] Congratulations to all the boys in 2nd
class who made their First Holy
Communion this morning in
St John’s Church. The weather was beautiful and the ceremony was a
credit to everyone involved.
16.
[May
28th ‘10] This
morning we had our final fundraiser of the year… our Sponsored Walk. From early morning classes headed out
in all directions and on their return were treated to an ice cream cone from
our special guest for the day ….. Mr Popeye! €6000 was raised on
the day.
17.
[June
3rd ‘10] Tonight
was “Drama Night” for both 4th classes as they
performed their shows in front a packed school hall. Mr Hughes’s class
performed “The Revenge of the Nerds” while Ms Aylward’s
class performed “The Lovingly Brothers”. Special thanks to Liam
Meagher for all his work with these classes. Also thanks to the Parents
Association who provided tea and coffee at the interval. It was a great night with many memorable lines and performances.
18.
[June
4th ‘10] Today
was Déise
Day as the whole school
wore blue and white in support of the Waterford
Senior Hurling Team who play Clare over the June weekend.
19.
[June
25th ‘10] This morning Mrs White announced the
winners of our annual Penmanship Awards for
boys who have consistently made a great effort with their writing during
year.
20.
[June
25th ‘10] The
weather this year added greatly to everyone’s enjoyment of our annual School Rounders League which finished today.
Congratulations to all the winners.
