1.      [Aug 31st ‘10] What a beautiful morning it was today as all our new Junior Infants took their first steps into the wonderful world of education here in St Declans with their new teachers Mrs Connolly and Miss O Mahony.

2.      [Sept 25th ‘10] This morning both ourselves and Waterpark NS, joined together for a special parish back to school mass celebrated in St John’s Church which was almost full to capacity.

3.      [Oct 14th ‘10] Congratulations to Lee O Connor and his team who this afternoon won the final of our 3rd/4th class Hurling League over in the College field. This league has yet again been a great success and would not have happened but for the time and effort given to it by Mr Kirby.

4.      [Oct 20th ‘10] It was officially “Red and White Day” today in support of the De La Salle Senior Hurling Team’s appearance in the Waterford County Final next Sunday against Ballygunner. We wish them the very best of luck.

5.      [Oct 21st ‘10] This morning, the Mayor of Waterford, Mary Roche was given a traditional St Declans welcome as she visited our school to present certificates of attendance to all those boys who had full attendance last year. In her address the boys were all sworn in as ambassadors of Waterford.

6.      [Oct 21st ‘10] Our annual Halloween Fundraising Raffle took place in the school hall today. We had a little difficulty locating the bike early on but Mrs O Connor was soon on the case, and successfully managed to find our first prize! Congratulations to Kian Burke and all the prize winners. Thank you to everyone for supporting this raffle. €3000 was raised this year.

7.      [Nov 8th – 12th ‘10] This week was SPHE Week here in St Declans and a wide variety of related activities and events were prepared for all classes, parents and staff. It was a hugely successful week. Special thanks to Mrs G Brennan who coordinated so many of this weeks events.

8.      [Nov 25th ‘10] Once again it was “Red and White Day” across the school in support of the De La Salle Senior Hurling Team’s appearance in the Munster Club Final next Sunday.

9.      [Nov 29th – Dec 3rd ‘10] It may not have been a special school event, but the weather this week was unprecedented for this time of the year. Heavy falls of snow and very low temperatures presented everyone with all sorts of challenges and turned Waterford into a Winter Wonderland.

10.  [Dec 21st ‘10] The boys from Mrs A Brennan’s 6th class and Mr Corbett’s 5th class gave a fantastic recital of music, song and poetry to the residents of Killure Nursing Home this morning.

11.  [Dec 23rd ‘10] After an amazing career spanning 40 years here in St Declans, Mr Hughes retired today. Since 1971 he has taught thousands of boys and pioneered the teaching of science in particular, while also being at the forefront of the use of technology in primary schools. We all wish him the best of luck and many years of happiness in retirement.

12.  [Dec 23rd ‘10] This morning in the school hall we held our annual Christmas Carol Service. This is always a very special occasion as the whole school gathers together to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Special thanks to Miss Buckley who organized this celebration today.

13.  [Dec/Jan ‘11] Unfortunately due to burst pipes, the school suffered a lot of flood damage during the Christmas holidays. Extensive repair work was necessary before we could reopen again as normal on Jan 17th.

14.  [Apr 2nd ‘11] Congratulations to our 6th class boys who celebrated their Confirmation this morning in St Johns Church, along with pupils of Waterpark, Newtown and Christchurch National Schools. It was a beautiful day and the ceremony went really well. Special thanks to Mrs A Brennan and Mr Fitzgerald for all their work in preparing the boys for this special sacrament.

15.  [Apr 11th ‘11] This morning in glorious sunshine the whole school gathered together in the Junior Yard for the “Naming of the Goat” ceremony. This concluded our special Lenten appeal in support of Bothar. We raised enough money this year to send 3 goats to Africa and also had enough left over to present a €100 cheque to Trocaire. The goat’s names this year were Molly, Lilly and Sally. Special thanks again to Mr Grant for organizing this appeal and this morning’s event.

16.  [Apr 12th ‘11] Our school choir gave a magnificent performance this evening of Roald Dahls musical version of Jack and the Beanstalk. The huge crowd enjoyed and fully appreciated the tremendous effort made by all the boys who had practiced long and hard especially over recent weeks. Well done lads and also in particular to Miss Buckley who is the driving force behind this choir. Many thanks.

17.  [Apr 14th ‘11] Tonight we held our annual school fundraiser, the “Cake and Bottle Sale”. Once again this year it was very well supported and another huge crowd turned up on the night to chance their luck on the spinner. Well done to Conor Twomey who won the 3DS in our special raffle. This event would not have been the success it was but for the generosity of so many parents and the cooperation of the Parents Association. Thanks also to all the teachers and SNA’s who gave of their free time to support this special St Declans occasion. €5800 was raised on the night.

18.  [May 21st ‘11] Congratulations to the boys in 2nd class who celebrated their First Holy Communion this morning in St Johns Church. This is always a beautiful and special family day and once again the ceremony was a credit to all those involved, especially both teachers Mr Grant and Mrs Greene.

19.  [May 30th – June 3rd ‘11] This week featured the second of our Curricular weeks for this year and was dedicated to Geography. The theme adopted was “The Tall Ships Festival”. With the big race only a month away it provided so many classes with the platform to produce some great work which filled all the noticeboards in the school. Special thanks to Ms O Shea who was in charge of coordinating this special week.

20.  [June 3rd ‘11] Today we held our annual Sponsored Walk. This was the last of our fundraisers for this year. It was the hottest day of the year so far and from early morning classes were seen heading out for their walks in all directions. On their return, every boy was treated to an ice cream cone.

21.  [June 9th ‘11] Both Ms Aylward’s and Ms O Sullivan’s 4th classes took to the stage tonight in front of a packed hall to perform plays which they produced themselves with the assistance of Liam Meagher. This was another huge success and the boys thrilled the audience with witty lines and dramatic moments. Well done to everyone involved and also to the Parents Association who provided tea and coffee at the interval.

22.  [June 10th ‘11] It was officially Deise Day today across the school in support of the Waterford Senior Hurling Team who play Limerick over the weekend in the Munster Championship.

23.  [June 10th ‘11] Our annual Penmanship Awards were given out today to boys in all classes who had maintained a good standard of handwriting throughout the year. Many thanks to Mrs White who prepared and organised this event again this year.
